YAESU 450-AT

“Todo depende del cristal con que se mire”

Poseo un FT-450 AT desde hace algo más de un año. Es un equipo que tiene TODO lo que se puede pedir a un equipo, HF+50 en todos los modos, DSP, acoplador (No mas de 3:1), llamador, ecualizaciones voz, CAT, entrenador de CW, display con números grandotes etc. Su tamaño reducido lo hace cómodo de llevar, un asa no vendría mal y el madito conector de micro telefónico. AHHH no tienes conmutador de dos antenas.

Este verano me dio buenos ratos en el campo junto con una Hygain 18AVT, balum 9:1, dipolos de cable.
Si lo comparo con el FT-920 pues me quedo con el “abuelote” para casa, pero para sitio reducido o en una maleta de aluminio + fuente Alinco + balum 9:1-10 metros de cable, es fácil de transportar y hacer radio.

Relación precio tamaño prestaciones creo que es difícil más por menos, 870€ son los culpables.

"I needed a transceiver for 6 meters and a backup box for HF. I saw the review from the ARRL and checked features and performance against “big boxes”. Nice surprise!. The price in EA is 880 euros including 5 years warranty, tuner, taxes and shipment. Nothing cheaper here for all the things you get. As “big boxes” are expensive, the final decision is easy.

I have used (9 months) my rig under these conditions:
- SSB and RTTY HF operation (mostly in contest operation) and 6 meters SSB.
- quiet environment.
- ATU used a couple of times.
so check reviews about noise environments, ATU and CW operation..

Pros:
- Notch and bandwidth settings. You can remove lots of QRM.
- Quiet fan.
- Info in the display.
- Audio recording and playing features.

Weak points:
- CONTOUR and DNR: I have not found a single QSO where these features could improve the received signal.
- IF width for RTTY. You have to use SSB settings. Narrower is 1.8 KHz, which is too much. There is a way to use CW settings, but you have to use split operation. For a standard QSO its OK, but imagine all the keys you have to push in a contest S&P operation. The good news are that you can use NOTCH together with the 0.5 KHz CW setting and you get an impressive selectivity.
- The MIC. Even my very old Kenwood TS50 comes with “UP” and “DOWN” controls and 4 user-programmable keys, that you can use to customise with usual settings you change. Nothing like this in this case.
- User configurable keys. You have only one, while at the same time several keys have useless functions (at least from my point of view).
- Noise reduction features had to be managed at the same time. A computer controlled operation could also solve this, but Yaesu does not provide any program. Esto ya no es cierto !!

Conclusions:
- Most of the problems I (and many other reviewers) got can be solved with a new firmware version. Is Yaesu going to listen us?
- I have paid more attention to weak points because solving some of them could put this little radio at top level radios. The problem is that Yaesu could be fighting against their own portfolio.
- Really you enjoy every euro you pay. I recommend this toy. This is why it gets 4 out of 5, regardless of the weak points.

A narrower roofing filter could improve contest operation and help beating “big boxes”. Are you planning any, INRAD?."

Después de un año de esta revisión, lo único que tengo que añadir es sobre el acoplador. Lo veo flojillo, y de hecho en el foro de este equipo hay muchas voces que apuestan por cambiar el interno de Yaesu por otro externo de LG.
